356
A 1956-1959
20,626 of these cars were produced. They came in both coupe and speedster
versions. Of course, as always, when the top goes down-the price goes
up. There is also a race breed Carrera DOHC engine which is costly.
356
B 1959 - 1963
25,834 of these were produced. The 356 B has a little more room on the
inside. Raised headlights and bumpers identify the new design.
356
C
1963 - 1965 Equipment upgrades and 4 wheel disc brakes were added for
the 356 C. The 356 was built along side is successor the 911. Total produced
were 16,674.
911
1964 - 1973 These Porsches came in various
styles with mostly engine changes, from carbs to fuel injection. 2.0 liter,
2.2 liter, 2.4 liter, etc. They came with the S. E. T. C designations.
They are great cars. The early 911's are very light with lots of power.
They tend to get rusty so look for a rust free one. The 911 S is probably
the best and fastest out of all of them. The early Targa's have a removable
top and zip out plastic rear window. These cars are a pleasure to drive
and relatively simple to maintain. The car can be used as a daily driver,
built in large quantities so parts are not hard to find.
914
1970 - 1976 This car was built by Porsche and
Volkswagen together. Designed by Porsche and using the VW 1.7 air cooled
push rod flat four engine. The best thing about the car is it's balance.
The mid-engine really makes it handle very well. A nice example of the
car an be a fun driver. Although they are difficult to work on due to
engine accessibility.
914/6
1970-1971- Six cylinder version of the 914 using a 2.0 liter 911 T engine.
Still mid-mounted, so great handling and have plenty of power. The 914/6
also has better brakes and instumentation. Only built for 2 years, so
it's pretty rare only 3350 produced.
